21 things to do

this is horrible. it's as though im blogging for the first time, navigating the now-unfamiliar blogger dashboard. haha. I'VE MISSED YOU, MAGNUM OPUS!

last july seemed so long ago, and of course, many things have happened since. but the most memorable would be my 21st! loved the surprises my friends and family gave me. i didnt organise any parties cos i hate being the host, but that actually translated into numerous birthday dinners spanning 3 weeks. i actually had 3 treats from my family in 2 weeks. i must have gained 5 kg from all that eating, and i still have more dinners to claim from my other friends. great.

thanks to claire and gang, i'm determined to try out 21 things i've never done before in the year i turn 21. i've tried writing a list, but it isnt really complete yet:

1. Flying to Hong Kong to stay over at Muthu's with the girls
2. Donate blood (tried like 2 weeks ago, but blood wasnt suitable at that time, will try again at the end of the year)
3. Go to Universal Studios (Battlestar Galactica!)
4. Taking a train to Malaysia
5. Running a half-marathon (as suggested by my marathon-crazy friend, cos it's 21km, sigh, but i hate running)
6. Cook a meal for my family (sigh, but i hate cooking too)
7-21. Stuck

appealing for more suggestions!

:@

i need an outlet. i need an outlet for all my frustrations. WHY ARE SOME SINGAPOREANS SO SELF-CENTRED AND INSENSITIVE?! i cant stand reading Yahoo! Fit to Post (FTP) articles littered (yes, LITTERED) with awful comments, where singaporeans just shoot of their fingers. they just express whatever shit that pops into their minds. oh wait. maybe they are mindless, brainless, so shit just flows out of their fingers/mouths.

a mr soh was unfortunately struck by lightning at the tanah merah country club some time ago. this piece of news was on yahoo ftp. and of course, a yahoo ftp wouldnt be one without some mindless comments. they wont even let a dead man rest in peace. just like the orchard road flood a month back, the first thing netizens would like to do upon hearing such news, is to blame the authorities. blame the government, the different agencies, the management. you can learn a whole load of profanities from those comments too.

if i ever meet any of them, i'd like to ask them this: so if you're in any of these regulatory bodies, singapore will be THE perfect country? floodless, accident-free? come on man. in this day and age, you should have already learnt to expect any kind of freak accidents and weather. what is there to complain about? do you want the government to be ready for a mega tsunami? you'd better, because recent news has proven that anything can happen. but then, are you prepared to pay more tax? if you're not, then shut up. SHUT UP. if you have better ideas of how to stop anything horrible from happening, then come out and contest the ruling party. stop hiding behind your computer screen.

politicians are humans too alright. they are not some deities that can predict exactly what can happen in singapore. i dont see those people appreciating the efforts of our leaders AT ALL. if you're so unhappy with them, then i'd like to see you try overthrow them with your super talents.

i cant imagine these people staying in places like china / japan / hong kong etc.

"how come the authorities didnt do anything to stop the floods?"
"how come they didnt try to prevent the typhoon from wrecking our houses?"
"how can they let the earthquake happen?"

sometimes, i actually feel ashamed for them. i know they definitely dont.

summer vacation

ok, honestly, i havent got to enjoy the vacation part of summer vacation yet. i was a full time tutor for 3 weeks, and after my i-want-all-the-tuition-i-need-to-pass-my-entrance-exam-for-singapore-schools kid went back to indonesia, i was a part-time tutor and full-time MAXAR financial secretary. but im not complaining, our mega event, Treasure8, at parkway parade, was a huge success! MAXAR raised a total of $15,000 from this event alone! i love my committee to bits. :D

Day 0: Booked a chalet somewhere at changi to pack 750 goodie bags for the public, and sweets, key chains and postcards for our mobile teams to sell all around singapore. watched south africa vs mexico for 30 minutes, until it was time to switch off the lights and tv to surprise our co-chairman with a mini birthday celebration. continued with admin work later (planning routes for the different teams). no sleep that night.

Day 1: bedtime--> 7am-9.30am. woke up and left for parkway parade immediately with sound system equipment. set up game booths, stage and information counter. stayed at the tentage outside parkway to take care of admin. went into parkway parade itself to shop for event supplies about 5 times that day. when mobile teams gathered in the evening, counted donations received and presented prizes to the top 3 groups with highest number of points. went back to chalet. dinner at 11pm. continued to pack another 750 goodie bags and loaded into rented van. we were like some magnificent display at the chalet premise, packing the goodie bags like a bunch of robots. planned route for Day 2, shower, bedtime at 3am.

Day 2: woke up at 6.40am, went to some hawker centre near parkway for breakfast and had the most horrid tasting beehoon i've ever had. met my mobile teammates from hwachong (a bunch of ex-nanyang girls!! :D). we bidded for orchard road, where we will sell our items and collect donations. 11am-2.30pm. orchard. poor response from the crowd + it was going to rain. called back to headquarters and changed location to serangoon. 3pm-6.30pm. serangoon. door-to-door collection at 5 hdb blocks. residents were sweet, understanding and generous. :) went back to parkway parade tentage to count amount of donations raised. MY TEAM GOT LAST COS WE USED SO MANY POINTS TO BID FOR LOUSY ORCHARD :( after event closing, my parents brought me to lavender food centre for dinnersupper. i love my parents! they waited for me from 7pm-11pm cos they insist that i should take their ride back. home. shower. SLEEP.

LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, on 19 Jun Saturday, my committee is back into action at woodlands regional library to hold MAXAR's Charity Art Competition 2010 Closing Ceremony. i'd never in my whole life imagine that i'd organise an event with 17 other people, which would be so successful, that over 1,000 students from 25 schools participated. :D charity art raised a total of $2,000. winning art pieces were printed on postcards and sold at Treasure8.

and my job now is to do up income statements, count money, count more money, and count more money, write reports, and plan for YET ANOTHER ACTIVITY: MAXAR Closing Ceremony, which will be held in august.

acitivites before the maxar craze:

volunteering at adidas sundown marathon to canvass for maxar (29 May) at changi exhibition centre. the sunrise was awesome!

oh! watch toy story 3 if you havent! it's soooo damn good! it's funny and touching. it made me miss my old toys. =\ haha. must must must catch it. :D

home sweet home!

yay i'm blogging again! actually i should have already done so when exams ended on 30 april. haha. luckily for my course, exams always start late and end early. less of those exam fuss. and 1 may to 10 may was aggressive tutoring (EVERYDAY!) to prepare my kid for her exams. i realised you really need alot of stamina to be a teacher. i always feel faint after every tuition session; brain juices all dried up.

hmm... i should be looking for a job that lasts me at least 3 months so that i have something to do over the holidays. actually i have things to do la.. just that they dont really fill up my calendar. like tuition would at most be thrice a week, at most 2 hrs each lesson. maxar would be having fundraising activities on 12-13 june at parkway parade. oh yea! dear friends, please come down and support! my committee slogged/is soon to slog real hard for this event to raise funds for spastic children's association of singapore. for more info, pls contact me =)

2 closing ceremonies will take up a day each, of which 1 will be organised by me and my future room mate! guess meetings will take up alot of time.. and i still have yet to finish the statement of accounts due 17 june for maxar's events. =( i should be lucky enough to get a job with flexible work hours to fit my shitty schedule. ha.

oh yea. moments captured during the last two weeks of hall stay. haha!

yili studying hard for her exams! haha. managed to 偷拍 her when i was bored with my own revision

studying for my least favourite subject, financial management. haha. chapter 7: bonds

haha. notice the metal piece in my hair--> i stuck the letter box key there when i went to the tv lounge to read newspapers so that i wont lose it, and forgot all about it! haha. took a pic of it to remind myself of the funny moment.

best room ever, 44-4-834

after my room had been stripped bare.

and my new furry neighbour that stays among the pots of plants outside my house. haha. little terror.

i found it extremely spooky that bala knew i was going to blog today. haha. i was supposed to have a project meeting now, but it was cancelled, so i decided to pay my dear blog a visit (whom i think is already on its deathbed HAHA).

i thought life after cheerleading was going to be easier. should have just got used to the hard life of hall + uni instead of hoping for a better one all the time. i got so busy that i could only go to bed at 2am on monday morning and wake up 4 hours later to finish my stuff. these two weeks are the worst weeks of my life; 3 reports and projects due, 2 midterms + endless committee stuff to do.

well, i must say that i am rather proud of myself because i havent once regretted my choices; whatever i participated in hall and in school. it's really time for me to learn what it is like to meet tight deadlines (that appear on my calendar on an average of thrice in 5 days) and work with people outside my network of friends and classmates, e.g. the police to apply for a license, NEWater for a collaboration etc. i guess majority of my woes came from the police license, because i literally got into trouble with the police on my first attempt applying for a license. haha.

but everything ended well and all i have to do is learn and grow up. i must stop avoiding responsibilities, especially now that im appointed cheer captain. that's like the most unbelievable moment of my life lol. yea, but the point is i must be brave and not be afraid to be an in-charge anymore.

pics of happy moments of feb and mar 2010:

Valentine's Day at Hall 8

my very orange-y presents from my best pals in hall. not in picture: orange fbt shorts, ten-dollar note (which i reminded them is red, the $100 bill is the orange one), and orange underwear. -.-"

from claire, yili, xj, sf, mk. =)

and cheerleading!

happy 2010!

aye, i know this is long overdue, but HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! spent the last moments of 2009 and first moments of 2010 with esf. sleepover at *****. this should be the first time that i counted down with friends. haha. claire said that nobody sleeps at sleepovers but everyone slept before 2am. ... to think we could watch the vcds and play games together till late.

the whole january will be presented for cheerleading. then i'll have to prepare for flute exam in february (plus 20th birthday. heh.) march-april: chiong for exams. i just hate how short uni semesters are. it's like living in a whirlwind for 17 weeks. argh. may-august will be fundraising nonstop for maxar, foc, holidays, relax. then september-december will be year 2 sem 1. okay, this year sounds much more exciting than the last. 2009 jan-july was spent working, slacking, waiting for uni to start. wasted a large part of the year doing nothing. couldnt even think of any resolutions that year--what could i resolve to do? be present for A levels results day? scoffs. sem started so late in the year that i couldnt expect what i would want to achieve.

BUT FOR 2010, i hope to
1. be better at partner stunts for cheerleading
2. pass my flute exam (grade 7's damn hard. think i may not pull through)
3. rise early, sleep early, no afternoon naps when staying in hall so that i can study enough before going home to slack during the weekends
4. be less afraid to drive (sian. i still hate driving)
5. be able to fulfill my duties in maxar and block rep com
6. maintain or increase gpa (like who doesnt want to)
7. smile more, slouch less, eat more fruits, drink more water

point 6 is like total randomness. hahaha. DRINK MORE WATER is in my every new-year-resolution list. getting there, but not yet. haha. enjoy the new term =)
